For Allen Ainsworth, a San Francisco-based architect and editor of The M.S. Warrior Newsletter, the words "there is nothing we can do to help you" became a catalyst for change - not despair.

Diagnosed in 1994 with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (PPMS), Ainsworth was told by neurologists at the UCSF M.S. Center that modern medicine offered no way to reverse his nerve damage.
