Bio-Psycho-Spiritual Effects of the Energy Enhancement System™ on Adults: A Pilot Study
This pilot study examined bio-psycho-spiritual effects of the Energy Enhancement System™ in 29 adults on Hawai‘i’s Big Island. Participants completed three one-hour sessions over three weeks. Measures included live blood analysis, blood glucose, and the Personal Orientation Inventory. Results showed significant improvements in blood characteristics, glucose levels, and five POI subscales, supported by self-reports. Findings suggest measurable biological, psychological, and spiritual effects and support further controlled research.

Abstract
This pilot study investigated the bio-psycho-spiritual effects of the Energy Enhancement System™ (EES) on adult participants. Biological outcomes were assessed using Live Blood Cell Analysis (darkfield microscopy) and blood glucose measurements, while psycho-spiritual changes were evaluated using the Personal Orientation Inventory (POI). Twenty-nine adults residing on the Big Island of Hawai‘i participated in three one-hour EES sessions over three weeks.
Results demonstrated statistically significant improvements across multiple biological and psycho-spiritual markers. Ten significant changes were observed in blood characteristics via microscopy, and three significant changes were found in blood glucose levels. On the POI, five subscales showed statistically significant improvements at the .05 level, indicating enhanced psycho-spiritual functioning. Participant self-reports corroborated quantitative findings.
Overall, findings suggest that exposure to the Energy Enhancement System™ is associated with measurable changes at biological, psychological, and spiritual levels. Recommendations for future controlled research are discussed.
Introduction
Energy medicine is an expanding field exploring the role of bioenergetic processes in health and healing. Foundational work by Burr (1972), Becker (1985, 1990), and Kirlian (1961) demonstrated that living organisms exhibit measurable electromagnetic properties correlated with physiological and pathological states. These discoveries catalyzed scientific inquiry into energy-based therapeutic modalities.
One emerging area within energy medicine involves scalar wave technology, a concept originating from James Clerk Maxwell’s equations and later explored experimentally by Nikola Tesla. Scalar energy differs from conventional electromagnetic waves in that it exhibits field-like properties, penetrates solid matter without attenuation, and is theorized to self-regenerate once established.
The Energy Enhancement System™ (EES), developed by Sandra Rose Michael, utilizes synchronized computer monitors and optically induced scalar wave patterns combined with color and light frequencies. These patterned visual fields are theorized to interact with biophotonic and energetic aspects of human physiology.
Although anecdotal and case-study reports suggest beneficial effects of the EES on health and healing, empirical research remains limited. The present study aimed to systematically examine the biological, psychological, and spiritual effects of the EES in an adult population.
Method
Participants
Twenty-nine adults (20 women, 9 men) aged 30–69 years (M = 48) participated. All resided on the Big Island of Hawai‘i. Participants represented diverse occupational, relational, and spiritual backgrounds. Most participants reported prior engagement in personal growth or wellness practices.
Procedure
Participants attended three one-hour EES sessions over three weeks. Blood samples were collected immediately before and after the first session and again after the third session. The Personal Orientation Inventory (POI) was administered within one week prior to the first session and one week following the third session. Participants also completed post-session qualitative evaluation forms.
Measures
Personal Orientation Inventory (POI)
The POI assesses dimensions of self-actualization and psycho-spiritual development based on Maslow’s theoretical framework. Twelve subscales were analyzed.
Live Blood Cell Analysis
Darkfield microscopy was used to assess blood characteristics, including red blood cell morphology, aggregation, fibrin (filit), rouleau formation, target cells, and crystalline structures. A six-point Likert scale was employed to code severity.
Blood Glucose
Blood glucose levels were measured using an Acucheck™ device at three time points.
Energy Enhancement System™ Exposure
Sessions were conducted using 4-unit and 8-unit EES configurations. All sessions employed the same programmed sequence of visual patterns and color frequencies. Participants were instructed to focus on self-healing intentions during sessions.
Results
Psycho-Spiritual Outcomes (POI)
Statistically significant improvements (p ≤ .05) were observed on five POI subscales:
Time Competence
Inner Directedness
Existentiality
Spontaneity
Self-Acceptance
Effect sizes ranged from small to medium (Cohen’s d = .36–.72). No subscales showed statistically significant declines.
Biological Outcomes
Live Blood Cell Analysis
Ten significant improvements were observed across three measurement points, including:
Improved red blood cell morphology
Reduced aggregation
Decreased fibrin and filit symplast
Temporary increases in target cells, interpreted as detoxification responses
Several indicators showed cumulative improvement after three sessions, with effect sizes ranging from small to medium.
Blood Glucose
Three statistically significant changes were observed. While glucose levels decreased immediately after the first session (likely due to fasting), levels remained within healthy ranges and stabilized by follow-up.
Qualitative Findings
Participants consistently reported experiences of deep relaxation, mental clarity, emotional release, increased energy, and spiritual insight. Temporary detoxification symptoms such as headaches and fatigue were also commonly reported.
Discussion
The results suggest that exposure to the Energy Enhancement System™ is associated with measurable changes across biological, psychological, and spiritual domains. Improvements in POI subscales reflect increased present-moment awareness, internal motivation, emotional authenticity, and self-acceptance—key characteristics of self-actualization.
Biological findings indicate enhanced blood fluidity and cellular organization, potentially reflecting improved physiological regulation. Temporary elevations in markers such as target cells may represent detoxification processes, consistent with prior case reports.
Limitations
Small sample size
Lack of a control group
Participant involvement in concurrent wellness practices
Potential expectancy and intention effects
Future Research
Future studies should include randomized controlled designs, larger samples, standardized intention protocols, blinded blood analysis, and condition-specific populations (e.g., metabolic disorders, chronic illness).
Conclusion
Despite methodological limitations, this pilot study provides preliminary evidence that the Energy Enhancement System™ may positively influence bio-psycho-spiritual functioning. The convergence of quantitative, qualitative, and biological data supports continued investigation into this emerging technology.
